Scottish Silver Brooch – The Three Nornes

In Norse mythology the three nornes were three ladies representing fate. Past, Present and Future.    These ladies were able to transform themselves into swans as depicted in this brooch.

Marked on the back with the names Skuld (Past)   Verdandi (Present) and Uld (Future)

This design is still made today although the modern version is slightly different

Edinburgh  hallmark 1984 although actually made in Shetland
